With COVID-19 cases dropping, Melbourne is slowly moving out of its strict stage 4 lockdown. Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, announced a slight easing of restrictions.

As of October 18, residents can now travel up to 25 km away from their homes. They can shop for necessities, exercise and socialise for an unlimited time for as long as they stay within metropolitan Melbourne.

The Real Estate climate is also expected to improve with auction restrictions easing up.

Outdoor Live Auctions

The ban on outdoor live auctions has been lifted. A maximum of 10 attendees plus necessary staff are allowed to participate. This change is expected to boost real estate activity in the city.

Online Auctions

Online auctions are still a popular mode of selling. Sellers will probably still take advantage of this option despite the availability of outdoor auctions if they wish to offer the property to a greater number of people. Online auctions are also more accessible for those who live further away from the listed property, allowing them to place their own bids in the comfort and safety of their homes.

Outdoor vs Online Auctions

Is it better to hold auctions live or outdoors? There’s no clear-cut answer here. It all depends on the property. Sellers typically prefer live auctions for popular properties, to create buzz and hike up selling price.

Private Inspections

The ban on private residential and commercial inspections has also been lifted. Buyers still prefer to see the property in person before making a purchase as online photos may slightly differ from reality.
